2018 WTC Traffic Safety Forum

During the World Transport Convention (WTC) held in Beijing in 2018, the I-ROAD China team (SK Traffic Safety) organized a dedicated International Roundtable Forum on Traffic Safety. Leaders and experts from organizations including the International Road Federation (IRF), the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP), the German Motor Vehicle Inspection Association (DEKRA), and China’s Ministry of Transport attended the meeting.

Participants who joined and contributed to the discussions included Kiran Kumar Kapila, Chairman of the International Road Federation, and Mike Dreznes, its Executive Vice President; Rob McInerney, Chief Executive Officer of iRAP, and Monica Olyslager, its Programme Officer; Kilian Aviles Mosquera, General Manager of Product Testing and Certification for the East Asia region of the DEKRA Group;Sun Xiaoduan, professor at the University of Louisiana and member of the TRB committees on road safety and on transportation issues in developing countries; Zhang Yunnong, professor at Texas A&M University;Cheng Ping, Safety Director of the Ministry of Transport; and I-ROAD founder Liu Gan. Enterprises such as Alibaba and Didi Chuxing also sent experts to attend the meeting.

The forum discussed traffic safety management systems, technologies, complete solution packages, system development, and evaluation mechanisms both in China and abroad. It examined the weak points and critical bottlenecks of road traffic safety amid the complex interplay of factors such as people, vehicles, roads, and the environment, and explored how to address the severe current situation and improve the overall environment for road traffic safety.
