On May 10, 2019, the I-ROAD China team (SK Traffic Safety) hosted the Intelligent and Connected Roadside Infrastructure Industry Ecosystem Conference. The event drew leaders and researchers from a wide range of institutions, including the China Safety Industry Association, the Research Institute of Highway of the Ministry of Transport, the Traffic Management Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security, the School of Automotive Studies at Tongji University, the China Center for Information Industry Development, the China Academy of Transportation Sciences, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Transport, and Alibaba’s AutoNavi (AMAP). In total, nearly 400 representatives from more than 200 organizations took part—spanning road construction owners, traffic management authorities, research institutes, design firms, product manufacturers, traffic safety facility contractors, intelligent transportation system integrators, and investment institutions from both China and abroad.

Centered on the theme of making roads “safer, smoother, and more intelligently proactive in serving travel,” the conference explored the strategic significance, practical needs, and feasible pathways for industrializing intelligent and connected roadside infrastructure for 5G vehicle-to-everything (V2X) applications. Delegates exchanged views on how coordinated vehicle-road development advances both the V2X industry and China’s strategy of becoming a transportation powerhouse, as well as on the policy frameworks, technical routes, and ecosystem technologies underpinning this emerging field.
The conference also marked the joint signing of several research projects between the I-ROAD China team and partner research institutions and university laboratories. These included “Research and Development of a Simulation Platform for a Three-Tier Traffic Signal Guidance System Based on Spatiotemporal Resource Optimization,” “Research on Urban Road Traffic Engineering Planning and Design in Wuhan Based on Traffic Management,” and the “Strategic Cooperation Agreement on the Intelligent and Connected Roadside Infrastructure Ecosystem.”
